First trip to Iceland? A practical checklist: how many days you need, when to go, what to pack and which regions fit your trip. Ask the AI the rest.
Checklist
Pick your trip length. 2–3 days covers Reykjavík, the Golden Circle and the South Coast; the Ring Road around the country takes 7–10 days.
Choose when to go. June–August has very long days, and most highland roads open from late June or July; winter days are short, so plan fewer stops per day.
Decide how to get around. Rent a car for flexibility or book day tours from Reykjavík. Highland F-roads are only open in summer and need a 4x4.
Pack layers. A waterproof jacket, warm mid-layer, hat and gloves, sturdy walking shoes – and a swimsuit for pools and lagoons.
Money. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, including small cafés and fuel stations.
Pool etiquette. Shower without a swimsuit before you enter public pools and lagoons.
Check official sources before you drive. umferdin.is / road.is for road status, vedur.is for forecasts and safetravel.is for travel alerts.
Ask the AI guide the rest – what to see on your route, where to stop and what is near your accommodation.
